Renaissance festivals and fairs have really garnered a following among the medieval enthusiasts. North Carolina is no exception and is home to several widely anticipated Renaissance festivals and medieval themed events. Some of these fairs are well known but there may be a few lesser known fairs worth checking out. 2009 Carolina Renaissance Festival in Huntersville, North CarolinaThis Renaissance festival is one of the largest medieval fairs in North Carolina. It is in its 16th year of operation and runs weekends from October 10, 2009, until November 22, 2009. The fair has a variety of theatrical acts, musical events and comedic shows. Vendors display handcrafted medieval wares such as silver jewelry and scented candles. There are activities for the kids including a catapult and animal rides. Visitors often dress in medieval costumes to enjoy the experience. Tickets are $19 for adults and $7 for kids age 5-12. The festival is located at 16445 Poplar Tent Road, Huntersville, NC 28078. Foothills Scottish Highland Games in Hendersonville, North CarolinaThis Scottish Celtic themed athletic event sponsored by Scottish Clans of the South takes place at Jackson Park on November 7, 2009. Events include a tartan parade, Border collie sheep herding event and children's arts and crafts. There is also a men's wrestling competition and women's athletic games. Musical entertainment will feature bagpipes and drums, a Scottish folk singer and several Scottish bands. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children. Reception tickets are extra and purchased in advance. The event is located at 801 Glover Street, Jackson Park, Hendersonville, NC 28792. Annual Camelot Christmas and Marketplace in Wake Forest, North CarolinaCelebrate the Christmas season medieval style on December 5 and 6, 2009, at the North Carolina Renaissance Festival Fairgrounds. There will be dancing, holiday shopping and artisans with handmade crafts. Adults and kids alike will get the opportunity to meet medieval characters such as King Arthur and Guinevere. The event will be held at 13239 Capital Blvd, Wake Forest, NC 27587. 2010 North Carolina Renaissance Faire in Wake Forest, North CarolinaVisit an era when Queen Elizabeth 1 reigned over the land and experience an assortment of medieval sights and sounds. The event runs from April 10, 2010 to April 25, 2010. From theatrical productions to jugglers and musicians, everything at the Renaissance Faire is reminiscent of this historical period. Guests can watch as knights walk around and interact with members of the Queen's court. The event will be held at 13239 Capital Blvd, Wake Forest, NC 27587
